New York City dwellers love nothing more than their neighborhoods, and each neighborhood often comes with a unique name. For example there’s the Financial District, often called “FiDi” or the area of Brooklyn directly on the other side of both the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges called DUMBO or “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.”
These two areas are connected by the Brooklyn Bridge, a must-do walk for visitors and locals alike. The gorgeous bridge just celebrated its 132nd birthday (opened May 24, 1883). From the bridge you’ll get a panoramic view of both Manhattan and Brooklyn, views of the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island, and its neighbor, the Manhattan Bridge.
